After amazing the Indian reading fraternity with her supremely content driven debut collection of short stories ‘Yours Legally’, author Ms Sonia decided to take a pause, but not a long one. The wait for her second book at times became too frightening for the readers by the very thought of this multi talented individual opting a new career of writing after diving deep in the world of law and journalism. Finally, the good news broke with an interesting title ‘Baby on Board’ an ordinary couple’s extraordinary pregnancy journey- literally and literature-ly. The young author Sonia has started her second stint with her second creation titled ‘Baby on Board’.
To start with, it’s a simple straight forward unpretentious book on a complex subject . It’s minimal because you can complete it at one shot; it has just 106 pages. The language used is truly candid and brave; at no point of of time you have to scratch your head in an attempt to comprehend the underlying message of the book. What makes it complex is the choice of the subject – the book hovers around one of the least talked about issues in an otherwise modern day society. The book centers around the psychological bumpy ride a modern day couple experiences when they are in their family way and aims to challenge the age old practices, perceptions which revolve around the journey of motherhood.

In the last two decades like many other things the birth of a kid had also undergone a paradigm shift – pregnancy is not applicable for the mother any more – it’s equally applicable for both the parents. With so many reading materials available in so many channels – digital and print, the real challenge of a modern day couple is to pick and choose the right one. This particular book in more ways than one tries to play a helping hand to answer many such questions which definitely crop up in a couple’s mind during this journey. Where the book stands out is in the delivery style – it’s light enough to keep you going but focused enough to help you not to digress from the fundamental objective of the book.
Readers must be well and truly happy to see Ms Sonia back with a bang and that too with her baby on board. Now, it’s time to wait and watch what she comes up with in her next writing venture because now we know Ms Sonia is worth the wait.
