It is anybody’s guess that a book based on fictional genre will sell higher than non-fiction books. But the researchers have managed to get to the nitty-gritty of this situation and have managed to find a secret formula of some kind. The researches heavily analyzed the New York Best Seller List and the data provided by it for the years of and between 2008-2016. This has led them to believe that even though people prefer to buy fiction books out of the whole thought of escaping reality, surprisingly, it is the non-fiction books that manage to retain their titles for a longer period of time like Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand which made it to 203 weeks of remaining on the bestseller list, higher than any other book in the data.

Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, a professor at Northeastern University found a universal pattern to book sales. Apparently, all hardcover bestsellers follow the same course of sales pertaining to the same factors. With this analysis, it allowed them to predict sales of a book in its early days of release.
Books have no gender, yet there is a gender disparity that follows amongst non-fiction bestseller authors. Men wrote most non-fiction bestsellers. Women wrote most books under the romantic category, but they found no gender disparity in best-selling fiction authors.
