No this is not a drill: John Green is quitting social media! For only a year it seems, but this is still devastating for all his fans and followers, who love him for various reasons like his hit novel and film The Fault in Our Stars and his YouTube channel Vlogbrothers. Recently he posted a video to YouTub titled ‘Taking a Year Off’. Those were the words we never wanted to see.
According to Metro, in the video the successful young adult author revealed the reason for his dilemma:
My internet isn’t working… I don’t mean that like the wireless in this house is unreliable, I mean I wish it were more unreliable because I don’t like the way I’m using the internet… More to the point, I don’t like the way the internet is using me.
Check out his tweet below of what his plan will be for the year long drought all fans are dreading:
I have 20 days left on this dumpster fire of a web site before giving up for a year. I'd like to spend that time recommending things I have enjoyed. First, I enjoyed my college friend Dan Torday's novel Boomer1, with its clever take on online culture and generational clashes.
